John Belushi

Just as John Belushi was really heating up the world of comedy with his larger-than-life characterizations on “Saturday Night Live,” and in hilarious movies like “Animal House” and “The Blues Brothers,” his cocaine problem killed him at the age of 33.I found some more information here</ a>.

Heath Ledger

Ledger had his illustrious career cut down by the brutal grip of prescription medication overdose at the incredibly young age of 28. The Australian actor was said to have been dealing with insomnia issues and was taking multiple drugs that created unhealthy complications. He tragically won the Academy Award posthumously for playing The Joker in “The Dark Knight.”

Corey Haim

Haim was one of the huge teen-aged heart throbs of the 1980s, gracing the covers of teeny bopper magazines and female bedroom walls. This Canadian actor had many popular teen movies like: “Lucas,” “License to Drive” and “The Lost Boys.” But decades of hard drug excess claimed his life at age 38.

Twitter is a great way to send a message to millions of people and one time and get an instant reaction to your random thoughts. That is one of the reasons celebrities love Twitter. Because many celebrities have millions of followers, they use Twitter to connect with fans on a personal level. They often send personal replies to tweets from fans and respond to rumors and bad press instantly.

Celebrities are often misquoted by mainstream media. Twitter gives them a forum to give information to their fans in their own words. They can give their follows a glimpse into their personal lives without jeopardizing their safety or privacy. Is this new to you? Catch up here Twitter is also used to gain support for future projects while they are still in the planning stages. The social networking site allows celebrities to get feedback from their fans without going out in public and being harassed by the media.

Tweets can spread rapidly, so if a celebrity wants to get their message out quickly or respond to something that was said about them, Twitter is the best place to post their message.

Make no mistake, celebrities are not held to the same standard as the average Joe. Ironically, is seems they are sometimes held to a much lower standard. While the rest of the population is made to follow laws and regulations, celebs often neglect to follow defined laws with little repercussion.

Countless tales of celebrities breaking the law and escaping significant legal recourse flood the tabloids. Too often, celebrities are caught in possession of drugs or driving while under the influence. Sympathetic frequently judges hand down mild sentences, even in the event of second and third offenses.

Community service is often the punishment for the original offense or failure to abide by the specific regulations of probation. In a roundabout way, community service often bolsters a celebrity’s image. The public is fast to forget a celebrity got behind the wheel after drinking upon becoming privy to photographs depicting said celeb reading to underprivileged children or manning a food station at a soup kitchen.

Social status does not lessen the severity of a crime. Upon reviewing many sentences handed down in Hollywood, one may suspect California makes an unspoken exception to the rule.

A ton of comic book inspired movies in production does not hide the fact there are still plenty of other comic books begging for the big screen treatment. If these comic books are greenlit into production, plenty of people would line up outside any theater to see them:

Wonder Woman: This is the original prototype for all tough chicks. There have been several attempts to bring the Amazonian Princess to the screen before, but each time the project has crumbled before it got off the ground. Wonder Woman is as much of a DC Comics icon as Batman and Superman. She deserves some time in the limelight.

Powers: Any story featuring a cop taking down super-powered people gaining super powers himself is a story worth committing to film. Few comic books have ever tread into Academy Award territory, but this is a complex enough tale to pull such a feat.

Ronin: Another brilliant creation from Frank Miller. A 17th Century samurai has both his mind and soul transported to the distant future to fight the mother of all demons. You know after seeing “300″ and “Sin City” translate to the big screen that this tale would feature some mind-blowing scenes.

Andy Warhol had it right when he said everyone will be famous for 15 minutes. Here are some celebrities whose time in the spotlight is fading fast.

Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton was the first reality show participant to parlay her momentary fame into an annoying uber-brand. After an album, movie roles, jail, lawsuits, drug busts, and sex tapes, the public grew snarky, then got irked by her constant over-exposure. Now many people are asking, “Paris who?”

Kim Kardashian

Will people still be as interested in Kim Kardashian when she’s a married forty year old with a designer baby or two? After all, Kim and her sisters are famous for being young, rich and beautiful. That will get you in front of the public eye, but it won’t keep you there as youth fades.

The Cast of “Jersey Shore”

Snooki, The Situation and the rest of their Jersey Shore castmates still retain the “most obnoxious” banner in reality TV, despite the best efforts of of various Real Housewives. While the NJ quasi-celebs initial fame has quelled, orange-hued Snooki and her roomies are set to invade Italy for the show’s fourth season. Like the Kardashians, the Jersey Shore cast members don’t have much to offer the entertainment world. Once the drunken antics end for this bunch, they may have to hit the unemployment line.

The 2011 movies awards season has come and gone, leaving behind a stream of awards for this year’s critically acclaimed darlings like The King’s Speech, The Social Network, and Black Swan.

However, it appears as if viewer interest waned in this year’s awards season, as the “king” of all award shows, The Academy Awards, attracted 37.9 million viewers, 9 percent less than last year’s show. The blog Alt Film Guide,http://www.altfg.com/blog/ noted that dips in the number of viewers was even larger for less popular awards shows like The People’ s Choice Awards.

Among viewers who did turn in to watch the big awards shows, disinterest, disgust, and displeasure seemed to be common criticisms. Viewers and critics widely voiced unease at this year’s Golden Globes host Ricky Gervais, whose barbed insults at the audience members seemed more vicious than in good fun.

Much animosity was also hurled at this year’s Oscar co-host James Franco, who was generally considered to be one of the less impressive recent Oscar hosts. Respected film critic Roger Ebert used his Twitter account to make several less-than-flattering jokes and comments about Franco’s flat performance. This sentiment was mirrored by publications like Entertainment Weekly, which also criticized the show for being boring and unexciting in general.

Free-wheeling use of language, nudity, graphic violence, what have you, premium cable stations like HBO, Showtime and Starz lack of limitations allow the networks to create shows that are much more realistic and at the same time further fetched than their network or basic cable counterparts. The lack of censorship and innovative storylines has reeled in viewers from all demographics, and not just those who splurge for all the stations through their Direct tv or Dish satellite packages. Between DVD sales and viewing parties, the fame of such shows spans far beyond even lofty premium cable subscription numbers, and deservedly so. Met with critical acclaim and legions of regular fans, the following titles are not only the best premium cable has to offer, but perhaps the best shows on TV.1. Entourage (HBO) Adrian Grenier stars as Vincent Chase, a movie star navigating the highs and lows of the rich and famous. As he takes his Brooklyn crew along for the Hollywood ride, each season features fresh career pitfalls, outrageous purchases and, of course, women.2. Weeds (Showtime) A suburban drug-dealing mother of two, Nancy Botwin tries to make ends meet after the passing of her husband in the backwards world of affluent suburban America. A steady diet of laughs and off-hand political commentary, this black comedy holds weight no matter the preferred state of mind.3. Boardwalk Empire (HBO) This newcomer to the HBO lineup recently walked away with the prestigious Best Television Drama Award at the Golden Globes, establishing the time piece on Knucky Thompson and his slew of Prohibition era gangsters as not only a fan favorite but one of the most well-respected shows on the air.4. Californication (Showtime) Writer Hank Moody is far from your pasty-faced, reclusive wordsmith, rather embattled with vices most men only dream of acting on, from heavy drinking to womanizing to free spending. Despite fame and relative fortune, Hank struggles against his inner-demons to recreate his early-career success and re-gain the affection of his longtime girlfriend, while balancing the burden of fatherhood against his morally depraved lifestyle.5. Dexter (Showtime) Just your average serial killer next door, title character Dexter is a forensic bloodstain analyst for the Miami PD by day and a mass-murder by night. The catch? Dexter only kills killers, feeding his sociopathic predilection for murder in the most socially responsible manner possible.

Perhaps it’s the return of Conan O’Brien to the small screen, but suddenly the late night nonsense passing for quality programming over the past 2 years seems suddenly uproarious, not with laughter but with outrage. Chileans can probably blame earthquakes and collapsed mines on Johnny Carson, kicking, rattling and rolling around in his grave at what television execs have been serving audiences of late, clearly mislabeled as comedy. The return of Team Coco reminds us, this used to be programming platform with standards. While a proud few have held the bar in O’Brien’s absence, a thorough examination of overall quality will undoubtedly leave viewers disheartened and disappointed. Who should be congratulated and who should be canceled? We’ll start with the highs. The GoodDavid Letterman Amid heart problems, sex scandals and a cantankerous Joaquim Phoenix, Letterman remains perhaps the single greatest late night personality in the post-Carson era.Chelsea Handler Women love her, and not in same fashion they view fellow host Ellen DeGeneres, as every female under 30 continues to read her Vodka-induced memoir as if Nicholas Sparks penned it. With an audience that constitutes 50 of the country, genetically speaking, she must be doing something right.Jon Stewart/Steven Colbert Smart guys, smart jokes, the two back to back time slots are at least good enough on a regular basis to kill an hour of time when nothing else is on. If only the Comedy Central time slot didn’t usually segue into a late night teen comedy or steady diet of infomercials. The BadCraig Ferguson Don’t blame Craig Ferguson, as a host he is both entertaining and disarming, but the overall production quality for CBS second act simply lags behind an earnest attempt at gaining viewership. Ferguson actually even plays into this on occasion, mocking his set, budget and whatnot.Jay Leno As his much talked about glory days fade further and further into distant memory, one can’t help but wonder, was there ever really a point in time when people actually liked Jay Leno? NBC has now tested Jay in virtually every feasible time slot. The verdict, Leno’s jokes are tired, probably best suited for 1 a.m. insomniacs.Jimmy Fallon Jimmy Fallon’s hosting career is actually a lot like his movie roles. Likeable in character? Sometimes. Likeable in person? Sometimes.Jimmy Kimmel We were surprised to find his show is actually still aired by ABC. Though there were a few good gags back when Kimmel was dating Sarah Silverman, perhaps she got custody of the couples comedic sense in the split, as there has been little to laugh at in years since. The UglyGeorge Lopez Hands down, the worst late night host and the worst late night show in the history of television. Had Philo Farnsworth screened episode of Lopez Tonight in 1927 and seen what kind of monstrosity his life’s work might become, perhaps today we would all still be sitting around reading books. Seriously, go one full episode without leaning on a racial crutch for a few cheap laughs. Just one. A 15-minute segment maybe? Didn’t think so.

These stars themselves probably resent their short-lived fame and the bad hand Hollywood dealt them. Often times we enjoy a joke or two over these stars whose once shining careers came to a screeching halt. But there are a few that fit this category whose one role was enough to earn them a spot forever in our hearts.

Peter Billingsley (A Christmas Story) No matter how old you are, you’ve probably seen this 1983, holiday favorite about a dysfunctional, blue-collar, American family. It’s hard to miss when TBS plays it for 24 hours straight over Christmas. But, you’ve also probably not seen Billingsley in anything since. This may be one of the most popular Christmas movies ever made, but it was the first and last hit for this child star.

Thomas Wilson (Back to the Future): Technically, you could categorize Wilson as a 3-hit wonder since he played the role of Biff Tannen in all 3 of these movies, which became one of the most memorable trilogies of the decade. His resume may include a page full of other roles, but most of them we’ve never even heard of.

Don Johnson (Miami Vice): The 80s crime drama made this star one of the biggest names of the day. Though he went on to play in another series in the same genre, Nash Bridges, Johnson has little more to show other than that one major series.

Cheryl Ladd: Filling some of the biggest shoes in Hollywood, Ladd replaced Farrah Fawcett as Kris Munroe in the popular 70s hit Charlie’s Angels. Though fame and stardom surrounded her for a few years, little more has been made out of her career since.

Anson Williams (Happy Days): The long-running American sitcom on which he played the awkward, somewhat nerdy member of the group, earned him a big name during the 70s and 80s. Unfortunately, not much else followed for the star, whose name doesn’t even register with most people without mentioning his Happy Days character.

For the most part, we see Hollywood as a faraway place with unimaginable paychecks and lifestyles we can only dream about. But within this unusual culture, there are a few stars that for whatever reason, we could see ourselves friends with. Some of it is related to the roles they play or maybe a welcoming smile, and we could be completely off base, but here we’ve picked the stars we’d most like to have a beer with.

Tina Fey: Not only is she funny in a real-life way, she comes across as an average person. She’s both attractive yet realistic, without the flawless beauty of many Hollywood females that most of us find intimidating.

Matt Damon: Though you probably can’t relate to the insanely talented and dangerous Jason Bourne, his real-life counterpart has a simple, friendly smile that makes you want to get to know him. Even though he’s going on 40, there’s an innocent boyishness look about him that could be one of the reasons he’s Hollywood’s favorite leading men.

Mark Ruffalo: Despite the fact that he’s played a number of different roles recently, many of us remember his roles in movies such as Rumor Has it, Just like Heaven, and 13 Going on 30 as the sweet innocent boyfriend who gets his heart broken–and that’s something we can all relate to. Like Damon, he has an approachable look about him as well that just makes you want to be his friend.

Seth Rogen: A drink at a bar with this comedian would probably be quite the abs workout. Rogen was the co-writer for Superbad, a teenage comedy that in many ways is extremely accurate in the way it portrays the minds of highschoolers, suggesting Rogen understands us average folk. The curly hair, glasses and hilarious performances earn him a spot on our list.

Jennifer Garner: This 38-year-old star can be both unbelievably stunning and incredibly average looking depending on the day. With the exception of more intimidating roles such as in Alias, Garner often plays a sweet, innocent girl looking for love, making her a likable character. Unlike many Hollywood stars she doesn’t put off that air of superiority and seems like a genuinely friendly woman.
